Do You Hate the Traditional Media? Call To Action!!

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 07:41:33 AM PDT

Hey folks, yesterday we did something awesome.

You remember that FABULOUS video of Barack's interview in Las Vegas, where he PWNED the living hell out of the Hannity/Tweety wannabe who was interviewing him? The video in my diary that was rec listed for a big chunk of the day yesterday?

Well, thanks to all of you, we got that video onto the front page of Digg.com -- where it still sits at this moment.

As of this writing, it has over 2500 Diggs and over 600 comments. Although there is the usual crop of inconceivably ignorant and racist comments, there are others written by people who felt they had really learned something about Obama by viewing the video, were feeling more comfortable about voting for him, were seeing that he isn't really a flip-flopper, etc.

That's great news, but it isn't the point of this diary. PLEASE, follow me below the fold. This is important.

A Frame For McSame (Digg it now!)

Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 10:33:47 AM PDT

With its ridiculous set of web ads recently, the McSame campaign is trying to hit Barack on one of his strengths -- the fact that people genuinely like him, respect him and want to vote for him -- and make it a liability.

Meanwhile, McSame is somehow still clinging to the Maverick (TM) label, despite having run so far to the right that he's off the level playing field. (Could he have lost his bearings? Perhaps he doesn't recall his former positions?)

So, my catchphrase for Mr. Gaffe-A-Day? If you'll please direct your attention below the jump...

What one user hates about Digg

Mon May 05, 2008 at 06:45:38 PM PDT

Here's the digg story, and here's the image it's linked to.

This is the problem with Digg and this is why there is a bury brigade

[image of the 10 most popular Digg stories, of which are 9 anti-Clinton and 4 pro-Obama - some are both anti-Clinton and pro-Obama]

You complain about the media not being fair and balanced.  What do you call this?

Well the difference between the media and Digg is that in the media a few people who have an agenda (e.g. to get ratings, to target a particular audience etc) whereas Digg it is the users who submit and approve or bury stories.

Hillary WASN'T LYING video / action diary

Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 04:53:24 PM PDT

I apologize in advance, I know this has already been diaried, sorta. But, this video is hilarious, and I think it has the potential to really make the rounds, with everybody eager to put it up on all sorts of intertube real estate. We just need to push it a little!

"Digg"ing DailyKos

Wed Feb 27, 2008 at 08:09:49 AM PDT

I am not a gifted blogger. I can not write long in-depth inspiring diaries. In my time at DailyKos, I have made the Rec List probably twice. My day job, though, is Marketing/Publicity. So one thing that I enjoy very much is trying to get more people to read the Diaries at DailyKos, as well as other similar sites.

One of the sites I use is Digg. For those of you that know what Digg is, it is a "news site where the stories are chosen by community members rather than editors." Similar to DailyKos, members submit an article and then other members "digg" the ones they like. The ones with the most "diggs" make it the Front Page. The really popular ones go into their version of the Rec List where the can stay for hours.

So why is this so important?

Obama Campaign: Hope Against the Machine

Fri Feb 08, 2008 at 02:01:33 PM PDT

For better or for worse, most people would agree that Barack Obama represents "hope" and Hillary represents "the machine."  It's not that either candidate is objectively superior or inferior (each have their pros and cons based on what your perspective is), but it's pretty clear that each represents a specific way of getting things done in Washington.

If you believe in hope, then you think knowing how Washington works is bad, and if you believe in the machine, then you think the Clintons' Washington know-how is a distinct advantage.

If you see things through this lens, then it's clear that Obama represents Hope Against The Machine.  Where 'the machine' is 'politics as usual.'

Current TV: Media Democracy or Misguided MTV?

Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 07:08:31 PM PDT

Current TV is the brainchild of former vice-president Al Gore and Joel Hyatt to "democratize the media". If they only knew what it's become...

Digg this You Biased Bastards

Fri Oct 05, 2007 at 11:00:10 PM PDT

Like many of you, I hate "littlegreenfootballs" (HERE in case you missed it). "LGF" is nothing more than a breeding ground for ignorance and hate, especially hate of the Muslim religion. LGF takes ignorance to a new, lower level. As I mentioned before, they started their own little takeover of the popular news site "Digg"

Apparently, Digg condones the ignorant hate of Muslims. I guess as far as Digg is concerned, "community" means "group of racist assholes". I guess that makes me not a "racist asshole" - because they kicked me out of the Digg "community". (btw they were only half right, I am an asshole)

Digging Mike Gravel

Fri May 04, 2007 at 11:01:23 AM PDT

Cross posted at Future Majority

Mike Gravel may be the crazy grandfather in the Democratic presidential primary, but he's also a potential rallying point for a whole bunch of folks who voted Nader in 2000 and think Kucinich is a toothless joke. He's had some solid appearances lately - particularly on the Colbert Report and during the  Democratic debate, where he was a jolt of energy in an otherwise soporific event.  He's also already encountering some pushback from the mainstream media and politicos, who want to exclude him from future debates - an opportunity to make hay and consolidate a (very minor) grassroots uprising if ever there was one.   In short, Gravel's got nothing to lose and a lot to gain, so his campaign isn't nearly as risk averse as those of the front runners.  That makes him an interesting petri dish for testing new strategies, and his supporters are rising to the challenge.

DVD DRM row sparks user rebellion (censorship)

Wed May 02, 2007 at 10:02:50 AM PDT

If there isn't a better reason to repeal the DMCA, it is the fact that the Advaced Access Content System Licensing Administrator (AACS) the forum that makes the DVD and HD-DVD formats is trying to censor bloggers who post how the DRM for HD-DVD's was recently cracked under the guise of legal threat. Now, I'm tempted to post that number here myself directly, but in light of DMCA browbeating against Markos back in January, I will link to this thread from Democratic Underground instead.

Digg Revolt!!!!

Tue May 01, 2007 at 08:15:52 PM PDT

there is an open revolt going on at digg.com!! seems the users and the management had a disagreement on "freedom of information" .

someone put up the hd/dvd code, and digg took it down, then some other people put it up, and these stories were also taken down. many users got banned, but got new accounts and put the number keys back up, only to be banned again.

the users then only "dugg" their own stories, and "buried" anything else. the "new stories" section is completely empty, though it shows over 6000 articles in que.
all of the stories in the que are related to this code, with new submissions popping up constantly, and any other content being 'buried"

anyone care to go to redstate.com and share the news? i don't have an account, but they are unaware.

Help Stop Daily Kos from being Slandered on Digg

Fri Apr 06, 2007 at 04:18:43 AM PDT

A Digg entry slandering Daily Kos in the context of this diary is gaining steam (currently at 65 diggs).  The post doesn't explain that anyone and everyone can submit a DKos diary.

Impeachment on front page of Digg.com

Sun Oct 22, 2006 at 07:46:38 PM PDT

Check out the front page of Digg.com right now.

Newsweek: 51% of Americans want Bush impeached.

The comments are getting freeped, so it could use some Kossack love.

Digg is the 89th most trafficked site on the internet according to Alexa. From the wiki:

Digg is a news website with an emphasis on technology and science articles. It combines social bookmarking, blogging, and syndication with a form of non-hierarchical, democratic editorial control. News stories and websites are submitted by users, and then promoted to the front page through a user-based ranking system. This differs from the hierarchical editorial system that many other news sites employ.

Kos makes the front page of Digg.com -- Welcome Diggers!

Fri Oct 13, 2006 at 03:57:29 PM PDT

The recommended diary about George Allen's Arrest Warrant is on the front page of Digg.com thanks to an online GOTV effort.

What does this mean? It means that this diary will be viewed by about 10,000 unique visitors who don't normally visit Daily Kos.

Digg is one of the most trafficked sites on the internet. Compare these Alexa ranks:
