Kossacks - help out a Navajo Library with kids books?
Fri Dec 21, 2007 at 02:08:00 PM PDT
I posted this early yesterday, but it got swamped by candidate diaries and other things, and sank from sight very quickly.
But today, it's Friday before Christmas. It's snowing here in New Mexico and Arizona. Maybe you are tired of candidates, corruption and polls. Yes? If so, we have just the thing for you. Children’s books for a library that really needs them. How’s that sound? Better than polls and political analysis, right?
This fall, I found out that the Navajo Nation Library System was able to get space and staff for a new branch in Kayenta, Arizona. Back in 1980, I worked as librarian for the Navajo Nation for three years, and we had a small library in Window Rock, and a smaller branch in Navajo, New Mexico. It was always a dream to add on more branches, but money for libraries is hard to get on the reservation. The Bureau of Indian Affairs didn’t consider public libraries to be within its domain, so it would not fund the libraries, leaving it up to the tribe to find the money. And money was always scarce.
Tired of candidate diaries? How about playing santa?

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DIARY. RECOMMEND THE MOTHERSHIP
The DKos community is providing extraordinary coverage of the California Fires. What makes this site different from the MSM is that community members are giving real time information regarding evacuations and fire locations.
Many of you are directly affected, many have family in danger, and most of us just hope and pray for the safety of our fellow citizens...

CA125 cancer tests and routine denial of coverage

Women of Kos, I need your stories.
I am in the midst of a second appeal with my health insurance provider over their refusal to pay for a simple blood test, CA125, the one that detects ovarian cancer.
I need your help to find out if this is happening to many women, and I figured that with the active health reform community that we have, including nyceve and all of us who want to see this kind of nonsense stop, the women of Kos might be a good source of data.
Read on for the history and a chance to give me some hard data to use to fight this company.
